Our Operations

Goldcorp acquired 51% of the Porcupine Joint Venture (PJV) from Placer Dome in May 2006. In 2007, Goldcorp acquired the remaining 49%. The Porcupine operation consists of the Hoyle Pond Underground, the Pamour Open Pit and the Dome Underground, along with a central milling facility … all located within the City of Timmins in northeastern Ontario. The properties have produced more than 16 million ounces of gold since production began in 1910 and include North America's longest continually operating gold mine. The operating properties, combined with extensive and highly prospective land holdings, are strategically located in one of the world's great gold producing camps.

While the majority of Porcupine Gold Mines (PGM) properties are located within the city limits of Timmins, Ontario, the area of influence for PGM is a 100 kilometer radius from the Dome Mill. The total PGM property area is approximately 38,000 hectares of mining claims.

Our History

Our Future

PGM controls an extensive land package within the Porcupine Camp which has produced in excess of 66 million ounces of gold. The package contains most of the significant past-producing mines and the most highly prospective areas of the Porcupine Camp including all ten of the deposits that have produced over 1 million ounces of gold. With our talented people, this large land package including the exciting exploration projects and excellent infrastructure, PGM is well positioned to lead the Camp well into its' second century of successful gold mining.

Our Exploration focus includes:

  1. Hoyle Pond Underground
    • High-grade backbone to PGM demands:
      • Aggressive underground exploration program with 78 km of drilling planned for 2009
      • Evaluation of depth potential of the deposit
      • Willingness to test the unknown
  2. High-tonnage source to maximize production
    • Evaluate open pit opportunities to take over when Pamour ends
    • Essential public consultation and communication as historic operations are evaluated for potential
  3. New high-grade underground sources needed
    • Fast track highest priority potential underground deposits in the camp
    • Opportunities around historic operations: CPZ, Millerton, Nighthawk Lake and Owl Creek
  4. Regional awareness
    • Capitalize on long term opportunities
    • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships to accelerate exploration on a huge land package

Key exploration partners in the Porcupine Camp include St. Andrews Goldfield, Matamec Exploration Inc., VG Gold Corp., Temex Resources Corp., and Metals Creek Resources Corp..

Exploration and project development continues to strengthen the core operating assets and identify new mining opportunities within the Timmins camp with 156,351m of exploration and delineation diamond drilling completed in 2008. The drilling focused on defining reserves at the high-grade Hoyle Pond deposit and outlining resources at the historic Hollinger, McIntyre and Owl Creek Mines.
